Through the therapy of acupuncture, nutritional counseling and herbs; Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is quickly becoming the most common alternative method of family planning. Chinese Medicine is interested in teaching women how to approach and deal with infertility, so that they are actively participating in the process of becoming a mother. Acupuncture can be considered a reset button for the system that is virtually pain-free. The effects range from a calm state of mind and body relaxation, to physiological changes in blood flow, inflammation, nerve impulses, energy restoration, much needed sleep, adjusting the endocrine system, along with healing and immunological responses. For fertility purposes, acupuncture improves blood flow to the uterus and the reproductive system. It helps with implantation of embryos especially during IVF. It raises levels of stress coping hormones such as cortisol and prolactin when it is applied just before ovulation. By decreasing the body's stress response we increase chances of fertilization and implantation. The number one goal and focus of acupuncture in fertility treatments is the regulation of menstruation and ovulation. Strengthening your ovulatory functions, improving blood flow and building uterine linings quality are just some of the benefits. During pregnancy the treatments are done to maintain balance and address the aches and pains that come with pregnancy. As labor approaches, treatments are given to assist labor induction and reduce stress.
